Spring is here – really?

Easter  – and last year we had a heat wave and a hosepipe ban!

Just writing my Easter update and, can you believe it, but there are thick flakes of the ‘white stuff’ floating past the window – and it looks like settling too. The Adds cat, Yuki, is the only one who likes the snow Not again surely!  Seriously fed up with this now – so is the Adds cat, Yuki, caught here hiding under the hedge in the last downfall.  So annoying as the fields were just thinking about drying up – well at least I got most of them rolled this week.  I’ve just been watching Country File who had similar thoughts, mentioning the last time we had such a cold, wet Spring back in 2000 and also 1970.  Maybe that means we have another 15 – 20 respite before it happens again.  Whatever happened to global warming?

However, I’m much relieved that our Easter guests Anita and Kate with their two lovely horses, Mallen and Tori, had dry, albeit brisk, weather.  The sun even came out for them on a couple of occasions.  It may have been a bit chilly but we all had plenty of warm clothes and enjoyed a couple of super rides.  The river crossing in the valley by Friars Gate was rather boggy to say the least but at least no shoes were lost!  The higher ridge on Church Hill side provided much better going and some fab views in the late afternoon light.

The next day our guests had the ‘Hector’ experience and were accompanied on a longish ride by Chris on his huge 17hh handsome cob, Hector.  This time we crossed to the next valley via Black Hill to Kings Standing and wound our way round the top of Gills Lap and the AA Milne (of Winnie the Pooh fame) memorial with stunning views across to the North Downs, before venturing back down the other side of Wren’a Warren Valley through  Eeyore’s Gloomy Place back to Adds Farm where a warm fire, lemon drizzle cake and a pot of tea awaited in the drawing room.

Thank you Anita and Kate for all your lovely comments about our facilities– we really look forward to seeing you again soon!

Interestingly, we are finding that more and more of our guests travel with only their horseboxes, so this year we are offering a new complimentary service where our guests can choose from one of the many great local restaurants or grub pubs which we book for them and drop them off with a booking for a local taxi firm to bring them home.   Its great to round a day’s riding  off with a nice evening meal at one of our local restaurants.  Don’t even think about lunch – you really wont need it after one of my gourmet ‘all day breakfasts’!
