Posted by on Jun 28, 2013 in News | 0 comments

Happy Guests and their horses at Adds Farm Its been a busy couple of weeks with guests bringing their horses on holiday to Adds Farm and we have had some delightful groups of people staying. Its really great to see them enjoying themselves and the riding on the Forest and being able to spend some quality time with their horses. Its also fun to sit and have a chat with our guests over breakfast or out on the patio at the end of the day with a glass of wine talking over the day’s exploits.  We all have our love of horses in common so there is...

Spring Sunshine – at last!

Posted by on May 7, 2013 in News | 0 comments

At last some Spring sunshine and everything is now looking greener and bursting to life as the weather warms up.  The gorse is in full bloom out on the Forest at the moment and looking really beautiful – a golden glow out to the distant horizon – and everywhere is drying up nicely after one of the longest wet Winters I can remember for a long time.  All the fields at Adds Farm have now been harrowed and rolled with a sprinkle of fertilizer.  Its amazing how resilient the pastures are when they have just a little TLC in the Spring – the...

Easter  – and last year we had a heat wave and a hosepipe ban! Just writing my Easter update and, can you believe it, but there are thick flakes of the ‘white stuff’ floating past the window – and it looks like settling too.  Not again surely!  Seriously fed up with this now – so is the Adds cat, Yuki, caught here hiding under the hedge in the last downfall.  So annoying as the fields were just thinking about drying up – well at least I got most of them rolled this week.  I’ve just been watching Country File who had similar thoughts,...

Fed up with Winter

Posted by on Feb 27, 2013 in News | 0 comments

COLD, WET, SNOW, MORE WET – WHERE IS THE SUN! Think everyone will agree, can’t remember so much wet and cold for so long! But we are not fair weather riders are we!  Several layers of thermals and waterproofing and we can go anywhere – although must admit some sun would be nice!!! The Forest changes so much with the seasons – this is the first time we have ridden a real  ‘Winter’ on Ashdown and the going is surprising.  Obviously lots of really boggy bits in the valleys and a bit slippy on the ridges.  Then you find some really nice...

A Happy New Year to everyone!

Posted by on Jan 5, 2013 in News | 1 comment

In this, my first blog, I would first like to say a big ‘thank you’ to everyone who helped launch our ‘Holidays with your Horse’ business and look back at the major stepping stones in 2012. I was extremely lucky to be awarded Defra/EU grant funding for the stables for our guests’ horses. This was a WARR Partnership project under the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) which I ran as Project Manager with a lot of support from Melanie Robson and Linda Hutchinson of the WARR Partnership. This funding enabled Adds Farm to put up a...
