Adds Farm – Holidays with your Horse in the Ashdown Forest – Spring update

After a seriously long and wet Winter it now looks like Spring is well and truly on its way. The gardens and lanes around Adds Farm are full of colour with heathers, daffodils and primulas – what a welcome sight after so many dull grey days.

Flowers in the River Garden

For the first time in many years the Ashdown Forest Conservators put a ‘walk only’ restriction on riders after the continuous rain in January and February – quite wise too as it has certainly been very slippery on the steeper slopes and streams of water everywhere just pouring out of the banks.  The recent spell of dry weather has worked wonders for the ground and the restriction has now been lifted but we are still advising people to take things very steadily as the bottom of the valleys are still very boggy.  The riding around the ridge tops is still as spectacular as ever though, especially on the rare days the sun decided to shine so we have still managed to have some glorious Winter rides.

Here at Adds Farm we have had our share of wet problems.  Just before Christmas we discovered extensive damp problems in our guest dining room that needed urgent attention to stop 3 serious areas of water ingress.  The room was basically pulled apart to be resealed and new dry lining walls erected, then new flooring and redecoration.  I am pleased to say we are now back to normal but it has taken a frantic effort from our builders to get it all done in time ready for our Spring guests.  Many thanks to David Groves Building Services; if you ever have problems with damp this is definitely the man to talk to!

Sunshine on the Forest

We are really pleased with the number of repeat bookings and recommendations we have had from our past guests and business for Adds Farm is certainly booming so thank you so much to everyone who has recommended and supported us.  May was almost fully booked before Christmas!  But don’t worry if you haven’t booked anything yet there is still plenty of availability for other months – including Easter!

Camps and residential training seem to be very popular at the moment and we have seem a great demand for them this year – also known as our ‘TLC Breaks’ (training, leisure riding and comfort), where our guests can combine training in the Adds arena with the wonderful hacking out on the Forest.  I think people like the idea of a slightly smaller group and more personalised attention, which is what we aim to provide.  We already have 3 full camps with Janine Lamy teaching, Amanda Barton is returning to run a slightly longer version of her camp held here last year and Martine Weber is coming to teach 2 separate groups of guests.  I have been getting almost weekly enquiries about the possibility of organising camps here and will shortly be putting up a new page on our website to provide more information on what we can put together, whether there are just 2 or you or a group of 6/7 people.Trevi and the Adds logo

I am certainly looking forward seeing some of our past guests again and also a lot of new faces who have booked after finding our website.  So here’s to long summer days and evenings, healthy horses and wonderful riding – and not forgetting socialising with you all out on the patio here at Adds Farm after your days riding.
